Da Nang – Viet Nam Yacht naming ceremony and reace start of clipper 2015-2016 round the world yacht race

Within the famous Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race, Da Nang City is participating as first-time Host Port and Team Sponsor of the race.

On 26 August 2015, in St Katherine Docks, London, the Embassy of Viet Nam in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will host and cooperate with Da Nang City and Clipper to organise the Da Nang – Viet Nam Yacht Naming Ceremony from 1300 to 1500 (London time).

More than 100 guests from the royal family, government, businesses, artists, media along with team Da Nang – Viet Nam’s Skipper and crew members will participate in this event. This is an important event marking the presence of team Da Nang – Viet Nam in one of the most competitive and challenging sports activities in the world.

On 30 August 2015, the Race Start of Clipper 2015-16 will take place in St Katherine Docks, London, celebrating the 10th edition of the world’s longest ocean race for amateur sailors. The 40,000 nautical mile adventure will start will the fleet passing through the London Tower Bridge down the Thames.

The key dates are as follows (in London time):

Wednesday 26 August: Da Nang – Viet Nam Yacht Naming Ceremony
13:00 to 15:00, St Katharine Docks – central marina basin, St Katharine’s Way, London W1A 1LA.

Sunday 30 August: Clipper 2015-16 Race Start

1100 – 1800: Free entertainment in the Race Village
1300: Official crew departure ceremony opens with teams on stage
1415: Fleet departs St Katharine Docks and parades in River Thames
1530: Fleet parades through Tower Bridge into the Upper Pool
1600: Fleet parades back through Tower Bridge to head down river

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is the world’s longest ocean adventure and also known as one of the most difficult challenges in the planet. At 40,000 nautical miles long and taking almost a year to complete, it consists of twelve teams competing against each other on the world’s largest matched fleet of 70-foot ocean racing yachts.

Team Da Nang – Viet Nam is guided by the Australian Skipper Wendy Tuck, together with 59 sailors (39 males, 20 females), in which there will be one sailor from Da Nang and others from 12 nations and 47 different careers. The oldest member is 67 years old, and the youngest member is 19 years old.
