Da Nang aims to become “WHERE HAPPINESS BEGINS”

The orientation towards wedding tourism is a significant market segment that requires careful attention and planning. To foster collaboration between policymakers and the business community, a seminar titled “Current situation and solutions to develop wedding tourism in Da Nang City” was held. This seminar explored ways to position Da Nang as an attractive wedding tourism destination, conveying that “DANANG – WHERE HAPPINESS BEGINS”.

On December 15th, 2023, a seminar titled “Current Situation and Solutions for the Development of Wedding Tourism in Da Nang City” was convened at the IPC International Convention Palace, Furama Danang Resort. The seminar was a hybrid event, with in-person and online participation options for international guests. 

The seminar was graced by esteemed representatives of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, worthy representatives of the Vietnam Trade Counsellor in India, distinguished speakers, and over 100 guests. These guests comprised tourism and wedding service providers, domestic and international wedding event organizers, and press agencies. 

This seminar was the first in a series of initiatives for developing wedding tourism in Da Nang City for 2024-2025. The conference received valuable insights and feedback from tourism workers and wedding event organizers, and it is hoped that their input will contribute to the development of this sector.

During a seminar on tourism, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Director of the Da Nang Center for Tourism Promotion, emphasized the potential of developing wedding tourism in the region. She highlighted the importance of a unified and determined effort to capture this market segment and create a world-class wedding destination in Da Nang. This includes developing an action plan to connect the business community, establishing a unique wedding destination brand, and creating a service ecosystem that caters to the needs of discerning customers.

The seminar discussed the current state of Da Nang’s wedding tourism industry through survey results and insights from industry experts, thereby leading to the approval of the Draft Da Nang Wedding Tourism Development Plan 2024–2025—a pilot program to attract wedding tourists. Additionally, the seminar facilitated connections with domestic and international wedding event organizers, offering valuable insights into the wedding tourism market and how to attract and fulfill customers’ expectations in this segment.

Golden time for wedding travel

In recent years, several Asian countries, most notably Southeast Asia, have been proactively developing wedding tourism products to attract visitors. They utilize their unique natural resources, cultural heritage, and affordability to provide an alluring experience for wedding travelers. Popular destinations like Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam have become preferred wedding locations for North American and Asian visitors. These regions represent the largest wedding markets globally, with estimated values of 28.8 billion USD and 23 billion USD, respectively.

 

Da Nang, a city in Vietnam, is also capitalizing on the growth of wedding tourism in Southeast Asia. The city is leveraging the significant interest of the Indian guest market, which is renowned for hosting luxury weddings. The Indian wedding market is valued at more than 45 billion USD in 2022 and is projected to reach $100 billion by 2025.

India, the potential and challenge wedding market

It is expected that in 2023, a significant number of Indian visitors will travel to Da Nang, thus accounting for a considerable percentage of international visitors to the city. Da Nang has become a popular destination for weddings, with many Indian wedding events taking place in the area over the past two years. 

However, at a recent seminar, Indian wedding event planners highlighted some difficulties they face when planning weddings in Da Nang, including the limited local wedding services compared to other popular wedding destinations like Thailand and local management policies that pose obstacles. The seminar aimed to foster open communication and collaboration between management agencies and the business community to find specific solutions to these issues in the coming time. 

It is, therefore, essential to work together to address these challenges and find practical solutions that cater to all parties’ needs.

Da Nang – “WHERE HAPPINESS BEGINS”

During a recent seminar, a communication and marketing plan for Da Nang’s wedding destination from 2024 to 2025 was announced, which included the message “DANANG – WHERE HAPPINESS BEGINS”. 

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An spoke about creating a wedding band worthy of Da Nang and highlighted that Da Nang City is a place to meet, date, and create beautiful memories for many people. The message “DANANG – WHERE HAPPINESS BEGINS” was intended to motivate the tourism community to work together to develop the city and inspire sustainable happiness.
