Rather than focusing solely on breaking domestic box-office records, Vietnamese cinema is steadily turning its ambition of reaching international audiences into reality. Expanding into global markets not only enhances the position of Vietnamese cinema but also creates opportunities for stories rooted in Vietnamese culture to resonate with audiences around the world.
Bringing Vietnamese Films Closer to International Audiences
While the quality of a film remains the foundation of its success, reaching international audiences also depends on a range of factors, including distribution strategies, release timing, promotional campaigns and an in-depth understanding of each target market.

As Southeast Asia’s film industry continues to experience strong growth in locally produced films, Vietnamese cinema is well positioned to expand its international reach. In particular, Vietnamese horror films have demonstrated impressive competitiveness in markets such as Southeast Asia, Taiwan (China) and South Korea, creating favourable conditions for attracting a broader global audience.
DANAFF Industry Days – Connecting Vietnamese Cinema with the Global Market
To foster collaboration among filmmakers and explore new opportunities for Vietnamese cinema, DANAFF Industry Days, a programme of the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF IV), made a strong impression in its inaugural year.
The programme brought together 10 leading Vietnamese film companies and 25 international film buyers from 13 countries and territories, including Cambodia, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Norway, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan (China), Thailand and the United States.
The participation of these international partners not only created opportunities for producers, distributors and investors to connect, but also promoted cooperation, industry exchange and the expansion of Vietnamese films into new markets.
Promoting Dialogue on the Future of Vietnamese Cinema
As part of DANAFF Industry Days, the Film Industry Conference was held successfully, attracting nearly 200 delegates.
The conference highlighted the latest developments and growth potential of Vietnam’s film industry while providing in-depth discussions on industry trends, international distribution strategies and opportunities for Vietnamese films to reach global audiences.
Through exchanges among industry experts, producers, distributors and international partners, DANAFF Industry Days has reaffirmed its role as an important bridge, contributing to the sustainable development and international integration of Vietnamese cinema within the region and beyond.
