The Search for Long Dien Huong made a remarkable impression at the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF IV), winning the Jury Special Prize in the Vietnamese Film Competition. Director Duong Minh Chien was also honoured with the Best Director Award.
The two awards recognise a cinematic work that successfully blends action, martial arts, entertainment and the distinctive cultural values of Vietnam’s coastal communities.
The film follows Tam, a talented martial artist living in An Hai fishing village, who is entrusted with protecting Long Dien Huong, a sacred treasure closely associated with the traditional Nghinh Ong (Whale Worship) Festival.
When the treasured relic is unexpectedly stolen, Tam and his best friend embark on a quest to recover it, only to find themselves caught in a series of dangerous situations. Thrilling confrontations, dynamic martial arts sequences and unexpected twists keep the story fast-paced while maintaining a light-hearted and humorous tone.
Behind the search for the sacred treasure lies a story of loyalty, responsibility and the determination to safeguard the community’s shared values against the destructive force of greed.
The Search for Long Dien Huong recalls the action-comedy style that made Hong Kong cinema so memorable in the 1990s, while giving it a fresh identity through the setting of a Vietnamese fishing village, the daily lives of local fishermen and rich indigenous cultural elements.
