Bamboo has long been part of Vietnamese life as a material of labor, making, and memory. In Hoi An, bamboo is not only associated with traditional houses, everyday objects, and craftsmanship, but is also woven into the landscape and the lives of communities closely connected to water and nature.

The Spirit of Bamboo approaches bamboo as a “memory carrier”, preserving traces of the land, the hands of craftspeople, and knowledge passed down through generations. Works by artisan Võ Tấn Tân and Taboo Bamboo Workshop bring the natural world to life through intricate bamboo structures inspired by praying mantises, bees, fireflies, and grasshoppers.
Combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression, the showcase explores bamboo’s transformative potential, revealing how this familiar material can evolve into new forms, spaces, and imagined living creatures while creating a dialogue between traditional materials and contemporary art.
