There are days meant for travelling far, and there are days when simply being beside the people we love, in a place gentle enough to hold our feelings, is enough to fill the heart with beautiful emotions.

On the International Day of Happiness, March 20, 2026, Hoi An Ancient Town will become a peaceful meeting point where visitors can touch the essence of joy – the joy of sharing, of moments spent with friends, loved ones and family, and of the quiet sense of peace that comes from within.

In Hoi An, tranquillity is not the absence of sound. Rather, it is a state in which people can reconnect more deeply with nature, culture and their own emotions. Among moss-covered houses, narrow streets and the calm flow of the Thu Bon River, the rhythm of life seems to slow just enough for the mind to settle and fully appreciate life’s simple moments.

Highlights of March 20 in Hoi An

On the occasion of the International Day of Happiness, from 08:00 to 21:00 on March 20, visitors who purchase entrance tickets to Hoi An Ancient Town and whose birthdays fall on this special day will receive meaningful gifts. More than just souvenirs, these gifts are warm wishes for those celebrating their birthdays in the heart of this heritage space.

During their exploration of the ancient town, visitors can also stop by the free photo-taking space “Hoi An – Happiness Station” at 108 Bach Dang Street, open during the time slots 09:00–11:00, 15:00–17:00 and 18:00–20:00 for ticket-holding visitors. This small riverside corner will become a place to capture smiles, hand-in-hand moments and simple memories shared with family and friends. Against the timeless backdrop of Hoi An, every photograph becomes a gentle memory of the journey.

As night falls over the ancient town, at 19:00, the artistic performance program “Melodies of Happiness” will take place within the heritage streets. Music resonating among lantern lights and historic rooftops will create a warm atmosphere where people can enjoy art together and share moments of relaxation.

Hoi An – A Meeting Point of Happiness

It is no coincidence that many visitors feel a unique kind of happiness when they arrive in Hoi An. It is a sense of calm that emerges from the unhurried rhythm of a heritage town – a place where every street corner carries stories of time and culture.

Early in the morning, when the ancient town is still cool and quiet, a walk along the Thu Bon River brings a refreshing and peaceful feeling. Soft sunlight touches the old rooftops while the gentle sound of oars on the water creates a rare sense of stillness.

By afternoon, streets such as Tran Phu, Nguyen Thai Hoc and Bach Dang glow warmly under golden sunlight. Visitors may pause by Japanese Covered Bridge – The symbol of Hoi An, quietly watching people pass by, or simply sit along a small step to feel the slow rhythm of the ancient town.

When night arrives, lantern lights reflect softly on the river, creating a serene and poetic scene. Small tea houses and cafés become ideal places to pause for a moment. A cup of hot tea, a balcony overlooking an old street, or simply a quiet moment watching the town transition from day to evening – all bring a sense of calm and allow visitors to listen more clearly to their own emotions.

These simple moments shape the distinctive atmosphere of Hoi An – a place where happiness does not come from grand gestures, but from the peaceful feeling of slowing down, connecting with loved ones and immersing in a cultural space that has endured for centuries.

The International Day of Happiness in Hoi An is therefore not merely a celebration, but also an invitation for everyone to pause amid life’s busy journey, breathe a little deeper, and touch the quiet within. And when leaving the ancient town, what remains may not only be beautiful photographs, but a lingering sense of peace – the simple happiness that Hoi An gently offers to every journey.

Special thanks to Tony Bac for the beautiful moments captured.
