According to the search data revealed by Agoda.com, Vietnam is at the 4th destination searched by visitors from now till the end of 2020.

Taiwan leads the wishlist of couples, solo, family and group. “The land of milk tea” beats the champion of last year – Thailand which ranks second, followed by Japan, Vietnam and South Korea. Also, the remaining of top 10 includes the US, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Agoda’s search data reflects differences among destinations searched by type of travelers, with Japan and Thailand taking second and third spots of solo travelers, while more family travelers are seeking travel deals in Thailand, ahead of Vietnam. For group travelers, Vietnam vies for the second spot ahead of Thailand this traveler category also has a more diverse range of destinations searched including the Philippines and Israel, which don’t feature in the top ten for all travelers.

Tim Hughes, Vice President of Corporate Development, Agoda shared that although the data interprets the shift to domestic travel amid the ease of travel restrictions, people are still dreaming of international travel.

The data proves the excitement to travel and discover the home country despite solo travelers, families, or in a group of friends.

In reality, there lacks of options of destinations yet tourists still desire to be at the distant lands as well as exploring the beautiful landscape of their homeland.

The distinction among searched destinations by different travel groups

In Vietnam, domestic travel is still the priority till the end of this year as there are no international destinations in the travel wish list of any travelers groups.

Nha Trang has gained popularity for all types of tourists and tops the league. Having a specific look at each group, it is noting that the solo travelers are also interested in Nha Trang while it was at 7th position only last year.

HCMC drops to the 10th place and is replaced by Da Lat in the list of most searched destination of 2020.

According to Tim Hughes, it is noticeable that tourists to expect the travel bans will be lifted in some important markets in which the COVID-19 is well-controlled as they are still seeking the huge promotions there.

At the recent meeting of Heads of overseas Vietnamese representative missions for the 2020-2023 term and Ho Chi Minh City Business Association, it is suggested to the delegation about the desire to support the promotion of Vietnamese tourism, thereby actively assisting travel tourism businesses.

As Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ky – Chairman of Vietravel stated, right after the pandemic is controlled, the business is planning for the resumption, including the inbound travel. The foreign affairs offices, especially the embassies will place a vital role in connecting the tourism firms with overseas source markets.
