On April 16, the Prime Minister issued Decision 519 / QD-TTg approving the duty of generating a plan for preserving, renovating and restoring the special National heritage site Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang city).
Accordingly, the scope of the planning study covers an area of 1,049,701 m2, which is determined based on the zoning map of Protected Area I and Protection Area II of the monument, in Hoa Hai ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang city.
The planning boundary consists of the East bordering Truong Sa road and coastal resorts; the West by Co Co River; the South by Co Co River and existing residential area; the North adjacent to Pham Huu Nhat street and Hoa Hai 2 resettlement area.
Objects of the planning study include: (1) The famous special national heritage site Marble Mountains, topography, surrounding environment; tangible and intangible cultural heritages and as well as natural landscapes associated with the site; (2) The management, conservation and promotion of the national heritage site; (3) Urban, socio-economic and population factors in the study area; related policy institutions; current status of technical infrastructure, land use situation around the monument; (4) Monuments, constructions, tourist sites and cultural heritages in the region that are allied with tourism development.
The planning of preserving, repairing and restoring the special national heritage site Marble Mountains aims at 5 objectives, including: (1) Preserving and promoting the value of monuments, in harmony with the requirements of socio-economic development and tourism services; (2) become a cultural space to organize festivals combined with unique entertainment spots of Da Nang City, an important destination on the “Central Heritage Road” tour; (3) Being a scientific basis for the study and conservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritages, featured values and original ecology of the monument.
(4) Meanwhile, the planning also aims to organize the architectural, landscape and technical infrastructure of the monument area; ensure a harmonious and synchronous connection with the surrounding landscape and environment, with the general planning of Da Nang city and other relevant plans. That also set the roadmap and overall solution groups for management, construction investment, preservation, restoration and promotion of relics values associated with the sustainable development of tourism types.
(5) Besides, the planning also serves as a legal basis to formulate regulations on management, protection and control of landscape architectural space; to formulate, appraise, approve and deploy component projects on preservation, embellishment, restoration and promotion of the value of relics according to the approved planning. Create conditions, mechanisms and resources to attract and encourage economic sectors to invest in sustainable development in the region.

The Prime Minister assigned the People’s Committee of Da Nang City to allocate capital, approve cost estimates for planning and other expenses related to planning work. At the same time, Da Nang Peoples’ Committee shall take the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and concerned ministries and branches in organizing and submitting a master plan for preservation, repair and restoration of the special national heritage site Marble Mountains at Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Danang City as prescribed by law.
The name of the Marble Mountains dates back to the 18th year of Minh Mang (1837) when King Minh Mang relied on the structure, the natural position of the mountains and the theory of the five elements to name the mountains respectively: Metal – Wood – Water – Fire – Earth (Fire Mountain alone has 2 adjacent mountains should be called Yang Fire Mountain and Yin Fire Mountain) and the common name for the site is Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountain).
On January 20, 2019, Marble Mountains was awarded with a special national heritage site.
