On August 27, 2025, Da Nang City, in collaboration with Sun Group, held the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the investment, construction, and operation of infrastructure at Functional Zone No. 5 of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, laying the foundation for the establishment of Vietnam’s first Free Trade Zone.
This significant event is part of the activities celebrating the 80th National Day and the 23rd Congress of the Da Nang City Party Committee.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Lương Nguyễn Minh Triết affirmed: “The launch of this project serves as a ‘kick-start’ for the Da Nang Free Trade Zone. The project holds special significance and strategic importance for the city’s socio-economic development. It is expected to strengthen Da Nang’s role as a vital trade gateway for the Central region and the whole country, and gradually become an important link in the global and Asia–Pacific supply chain network.” He also commended Sun Group for consistently pioneering investments in iconic projects for the city.
Established under Decision No. 1142/QĐ-TTg dated June 13, 2025, by the Prime Minister, this is the first Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in the country, covering an area of approximately 1,881 hectares. It is divided into seven zones located in Liên Chiểu Ward and Hòa Vang Commune, with functions including manufacturing, logistics, trade and services, digital technology, information technology, and innovation.

On June 22, at the Ceremony announcing the Prime Minister’s decision on the establishment of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, Sun Group was granted a memorandum of understanding to invest in Zones 5, 6, and 7 with a total area of approximately 645 hectares.
Subsequently, on August 26, the People’s Committee of Da Nang City issued Decision No. 1175/QĐ-UBND, approving the investment policy and recognizing Sun Group as the investor for the commercial service functional zone project at Zone No. 5 of the FTZ, located in Hòa Vang Commune, right at the foothill of Bà Nà Mountain.
Thus, Sun Group is the first investor to be licensed to develop projects within the subdivisions of the Free Trade Zone in Da Nang. Sun Group will focus on developing unique resort complexes, emphasizing eco-tourism services, medical tourism, healthcare, and luxury resorts with premium villas, resorts, and world-class entertainment facilities, alongside duty-free shops, high-end shopping centers, and other premium services—delivering a refined, luxurious lifestyle and international-class shopping experience. Notably, in healthcare and medical services, for the first time in the country, new mechanisms and policies on pharmaceuticals and healthcare will be piloted.

Thanks to its prime location directly connected to Sun World Bà Nà Hills, which attracts millions of domestic and international visitors each year, the project cluster at Zone No. 5 will maximize its unique advantages of being adjacent to one of Da Nang’s most vibrant tourism “hubs.” It will contribute to creating a synergistic effect that connects tourism, services, and high-end accommodation, while increasing visitor spending and length of stay. At the same time, it will help realize the goal of making Da Nang a pioneer in modern economic institutions—a dynamic testing ground for new mechanisms and policies to attract investment, boost production, and promote international integration. The Free Trade Zone model is regarded as a key economic growth driver, with proven success stories from countries in the region such as Singapore, Dubai, and China.
“Joining hands with the city to launch the Da Nang Free Trade Zone demonstrates Sun Group’s determination in accompanying Da Nang’s development journey. We are committed to implementing the project decisively to reach completion soon, linking with other components of the Free Trade Zone, thereby contributing to attracting investment and creating new growth momentum for the city,” emphasized Mr. Nguyễn Văn Bình, Chairman of Sun Group Central Region, in his remarks at the event.
The establishment of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone is an important “catalyst” to realize the aspiration of expanding new development space for the city. In particular, with the integration of two mega master plans—the Free Trade Zone and the International Financial Center—Da Nang is set to become a modern, smart, and highly competitive economic ecosystem in the future, evolving into a major economic hub of the country and the region, with a projected per capita income of around USD 8,500 by 2050.

On the same day, Sun Group broke ground on the Bà Nà – Suối Mơ resort and entertainment urban complex, with a total investment of 52,000 billion VND in its second phase. The operation of the Bà Nà Cable Car Line No. 9, along with the entertainment park, urban zone, and luxury resort within the complex, is expected to create a seamless experience for visitors from the foothill to the summit of Bà Nà. The complex will also contribute to making Sun World Bà Nà Hills a must-visit destination on any Da Nang travel itinerary.
