Da Nang promoted its culture, heritage and tourism at the Vietnam Festival in Kanagawa, contributing to stronger exchanges, cooperation and friendship between the two localities.
On September 12 and 13, 2026, a delegation from Da Nang, comprising representatives from the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the People’s Committees of Hoi An, Hoi An Dong and Hoi An Tay wards, and the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Center, participated in the Vietnam Festival in Kanagawa 2026. The event took place at Zou-no-hana Park in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, featuring a diverse range of activities, including cultural exchanges, art performances, tourism and trade promotion, and people-to-people exchanges between Viet Nam and Japan.
The Vietnam Festival in Kanagawa has been held annually since 2015 by the Kanagawa Prefectural Government in collaboration with the Embassy of Viet Nam in Japan, with the participation of central and local government agencies from Viet Nam. Over its ten editions, the Festival has continued to expand its scale, influence and reputation, attracting large numbers of delegates, members of the Vietnamese community, local residents and visitors. It has become one of the largest and most highly regarded Viet Nam–Japan exchange events in Japan, helping promote the country, people and culture of Viet Nam while providing a platform for localities, organizations and communities from both countries to connect and expand cooperation.
As part of the Festival, the Da Nang delegation delivered a presentation introducing the city’s tourism at the Viet Nam Tourism Seminar and operated a booth providing tourism information about Hoi An and Da Nang to local residents, visitors and the Vietnamese community in Kanagawa. Da Nang’s participation contributed to enhancing the city’s presence and role in external relations and cultural diplomacy. It also created further opportunities to promote cooperation, strengthen mutual understanding and deepen the friendship between Hoi An, Da Nang and Kanagawa Prefecture.
Through these activities, the two sides will continue to expand cooperation in culture, heritage conservation and promotion, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, contributing to a more substantive, practical and effective partnership between the two localities.
Kanagawa is home to one of the largest Vietnamese communities living and working in Japan. Cooperation between Da Nang and Kanagawa Prefecture has continued to grow across various fields, particularly culture and tourism. Notably, Kanagawa has organized the Kanagawa Festival in Da Nang on several occasions, while Hoi An Ancient Town in Da Nang has participated in the Vietnam Festival in Kanagawa multiple times.
The image of Hoi An has also gained greater visibility in Kanagawa through a display of approximately 1,000 Hoi An lanterns at Yokohama Bay Quarter. These activities not only help promote the culture, heritage and tourism of Hoi An and Da Nang in Japan but also build further bridges of exchange and connection between the people of the two localities.
