The VNG IRONMAN Vietnam 2026 season is not merely a sporting event, but also a historic milestone for Vietnam’s endurance sports community after a decade of development.

For the first time in Vietnam, the full-distance IRONMAN 140.6 miles officially takes place in Da Nang — one of the most prestigious and demanding challenges in the world of endurance sports. This milestone makes Vietnam the 32nd country in the world to host a full-distance IRONMAN event within the global IRONMAN system, while also marking an important step forward in Vietnam’s capability to organize large-scale international sporting events.

At the same time, VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang 2026 also marks a significant 10-year journey since its inaugural race in 2015. From a relatively new sporting event in Vietnam, IRONMAN in Da Nang has steadily grown into a major international endurance sports event, helping position the coastal city as a familiar destination for the global endurance athlete community.

This year’s event week is expected to welcome more than 4,700 athletes from over 91 countries and territories, further affirming Da Nang’s growing international appeal on the global endurance sports map. Among them, the number of international athletes is expected to reach approximately 1,800 participants — an increase of more than 80% compared to the inaugural season — reflecting the rapid growth of the triathlon community in Vietnam as well as across Asia.

Beyond the scale of competition, IRONMAN continues to demonstrate its significant impact on the local economy and tourism industry. According to Sunrise Events Vietnam, throughout nine seasons, the event has contributed approximately USD 65 million to Da Nang’s economy through tourism, accommodation, services, and related activities. In 2025 alone, the event week generated an estimated USD 9.3 million in economic value, highlighting the increasingly important role of sports tourism in the coastal city.

This year’s edition also welcomes the participation of renowned figures from the global triathlon community, including Mark Allen — six-time IRONMAN World Champion — and Yee Sze Mun, an athlete honored in the IRONMAN Hall of Fame. The presence of these legends not only elevates the prestige of the event but also spreads the spirit of perseverance, determination, and inspiration to sports communities both in Vietnam and internationally.

In addition, the 2026 season also sees the participation of several prominent Vietnamese athletes such as Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên, Lâm Quang Nhật, Đặng Quốc Tuấn, Lê Nhật Tài, Hoàng Minh Quân, and Nguyễn Thị Trà My, promising exciting race developments and inspiring stories along the course.

After a decade of growth, IRONMAN not only reflects the remarkable development of Vietnam’s endurance sports community but also opens strong potential for sports tourism in Da Nang — a city steadily affirming its position as a destination for large-scale international events in Asia.
