Lighting up Vietnamese Culture through the Language of Light and Technology

Welcoming the new spring season, Hoi An Memories Land officially announces the Festival of Light & Heritage 2026 — a large-scale cultural, artistic, and technological experience series taking place from February 17 to April 30, 2026. The festival is set to become a must-visit destination in Hoi An during Lunar New Year and Spring 2026.

Guided by the spirit of “Lighting up the Culture of Vietnam,” the Festival of Light & Heritage 2026 marks the first-ever fusion of giant lantern installations, drone performances, and immersive traditional craft village experiences, retelling the glorious history of the ancient trading port of Faifo through the contemporary language of light and technology.

Recreating a “Heritage Canvas” along the Hoai River

Inspired by the prosperous trading era of the 17th century, the festival highlights the iconic Shuinsen (Red Seal Ship) as its central motif. For the first time in Hoi An, this legendary vessel — a symbol of Vietnam–Japan cultural exchange and the flourishing international port of the past — will be spectacularly recreated through a large-scale artistic lantern system glowing across the Hoai River.

More than decorative elements, each lantern cluster represents a historical fragment, transforming the entire Hoi An Memories Land into a radiant “heritage canvas.” Throughout the festival period, the island becomes a living “museum of light,” where visitors do not merely observe heritage but are invited to step into a multi-dimensional space and experience the enduring flow of Vietnamese culture.

A Pioneering Highlight: Dragon & Phoenix Drone Show over the Heritage Sky

One of the most anticipated highlights of the Festival of Light & Heritage 2026 is its bold blend of tradition and cutting-edge technology. For the first time ever, visitors to Hoi An will witness a Dragon & Phoenix Drone Light Show soaring across the spring night sky — powerful symbols of prosperity, harmony, and auspicious beginnings.

This spectacular performance vividly embodies the festival’s core philosophy: using modern technology to honor and rejuvenate traditional values, bringing Vietnamese culture closer to international audiences. At the same time, it serves as a ceremonial “awakening” of Hoi An’s night sky, affirming the city’s dynamic transformation while remaining deeply rooted in its centuries-old heritage.

A Three-Month Journey through Cultural and Craft Heritage

Beyond visual spectacle, the festival unfolds as a three-month cultural journey, featuring a series of themed phases that celebrate Vietnam’s rich heritage:

  • Heritage Tet (February 17 – March 1, 2026):
  • Opening the festival with festive lì xì celebrations and immersive Lunar New Year experiences representing the traditional flavors of all three regions of Vietnam.
  • Opening Night (March 4, 2026):
  • A dazzling convergence of light and technology, highlighted by the inaugural Dragon & Phoenix Drone Show over Hoi An.
  • Silk Week (March 10 – March 23, 2026):
  • Artistic performances honoring the art of sericulture and silk weaving — a golden legacy of Quang Nam.
  • Ceramics Week (March 24 – April 13, 2026):
  • Contemporary art installations celebrating ceramic craftsmanship and the mastery of traditional artisans.
  • Closing Ceremony (April 30, 2026):
  • A poetic farewell marked by the release of sky lanterns and floating lanterns, symbolizing wishes for peace and prosperity.

Alongside these events is a vibrant program of craft workshops and Vietnamese heritage shopping spaces, designed for families, young travelers, and international visitors alike.

A New Spring Destination for Hoi An 2026

With its extended duration, diverse programming, and innovative experiences, the Festival of Light & Heritage 2026 is expected to become a new highlight of Hoi An’s spring tourism season. The festival aims to extend visitor stays, enrich travel experiences, and enhance the appeal of the heritage city during the peak Lunar New Year period.
