The Hai Chau Village Communal House Festival 2025 is set to be held over two enriching days, from April 3 to April 4, 2025, at K48/46 Phan Chau Trinh Street, Hai Chau Ward, Hai Chau District. The People’s Committee of Hai Chau District organizes this esteemed event annually. It seeks to celebrate the beauty and significance of traditional Vietnamese villages, with the communal house serving as a central symbol – a revered site for honoring the village’s tutelary deity and acknowledging the contributions of those who have played pivotal roles in the establishment and development of the land. This role of the communal house instills a sense of respect and reverence in all who visit.
The festival is organized into two principal segments: ceremonial rituals and festive activities. The ceremonial section features the Le Vong (ceremonial tribute), the Le Chanh Te (main worship ceremony), and incense offerings. These solemn rituals reflect profound respect and gratitude toward the village’s deities and the pioneers and ancestors who guided the community in its agricultural development and overall prosperity for future generations.
Complementing the ceremonial activities are a variety of vibrant events in the festive segment. Highlights include an Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) performance by local kindergartens under the theme “Da Nang, 50 Years of Construction, Development, and Integration,” a lantern-floating ceremony, and traditional folk games hosted at Hai Chau Communal House. A culinary booth will also showcase delightful local dishes and products from women-led start-ups. At the same time, a music contest will feature compositions celebrating Hai Chau. Competitions in traditional sports such as tug of war, stick pushing, and relay sack racing will also engage participants and visitors alike.
Regarded as one of the oldest cultural events for the residents of Hai Chau District and the wider Da Nang community, this year’s festival aims to perpetuate the rich cultural heritage and resilient spirit of Da Nang’s people amid the city’s ongoing development efforts. Furthermore, it enhances appreciation of the unique cultural traditions attributed to Hai Chau District, inviting you to delve into the distinct customs and practices that make this district so special.
Recognized as the oldest communal house in Da Nang and designated a National Historical and Cultural Relic in 2001, the Hai Chau Communal House preserves numerous valuable artifacts, including ancient wooden plaques and carefully crafted parallel sentences written in Han characters, reflecting a storied history spanning several centuries.
