The Ban Than – Hon Mang – Hon Dua Scenic Area is located in the northeast of Tam Hai Commune and dates back approximately 400 million years.

Danh thắng Bàn Than – Hòn Mang – Hòn Dứa nằm phía Đông Bắc xã Tam Hải, niên đại khoảng 400 triệu năm; The Ban Than – Hon Mang – Hon Dua Scenic Area is located in the northeast of Tam Hai Commune and dates back approximately 400 million years.

Here, layers of black rock are stacked upon one another, rising above the sea, bearing imprints that reflect the evolutionary processes of the Earth’s crust and relating to the formation and expansion of the East Sea. The site is surrounded by a coral reef system covering more than 90 hectares, home to around 100 species, 41 species of seaweed, and 168 species of fish, many of which hold high economic value.

The Ban Than – Hon Mang – Hon Dua Scenic Cluster was recognized as a Provincial Scenic Site by the former Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee in 2017. In 2020, Tam Hai Island Commune was listed by National Geographic (USA) among the five most beautiful beaches in southern Vietnam. In February 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 393 officially recognizing Ban Than – Hon Mang – Hon Dua as a National Scenic Relic.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ban Than Rock Reef: Stretching about 2 kilometers, this reef stands out with layers of jet-black rocks stacked upon one another, forming unique shapes. Especially in spring, the rocks are covered with green moss, creating a mesmerizing scene.
  • Hon Mang and Hon Dua: These two small islands lie about 500–700 meters from Ban Than, featuring fine golden sandy beaches ideal for swimming and photography. Hon Mang covers an area of about 2 hectares, while Hon Dua spans more than 11 hectares.
  • Rich Marine Ecosystem: This area features a coral reef ecosystem covering over 90 hectares with nearly 100 coral species. It is home to 41 species of seaweed and 168 species of fish, including economically valuable seafood such as red snapper, grouper, spiny lobster, rock lobster, and sweet snail.

TRANSPORTATION

Traveling from Da Nang: From the city center, visitors can travel by motorbike or car along National Highway 1A toward Nui Thanh Commune. After about 100 kilometers, you will reach milestone 1020, then turn toward the sea for about 10 kilometers to catch the ferry at Ky Ha Port (also known as Ky Ha Harbor). Taking the ferry (Tam Hai – Tam Quang*) across Ky Ha estuary will bring you to Tam Hai Commune.

Currently, there are three river ferry routes operating in Tam Hai Commune. These include: the Long Thanh Tay Hamlet – Dong Xuan Hamlet (Tam Giang) route; the Binh Trung Hamlet – Xuan My Hamlet route; and the Tam Hai – Tam Quang route.

SUGGESTED VISIT

Best Time to Visit: The Ban Than – Hon Mang – Hon Dua Scenic Area can be visited year-round; however, the most ideal time is during the dry season, from around February to August each year. This period features stable weather, sunny skies, clear blue seas, and minimal storms, making it very convenient for traveling, sightseeing, and experiencing the natural landscape. Visitors should note that the operating hours of the ferries connecting to Tam Hai Commune end at 19:00 (from April to September) and at 18:00 (from October to March).
