Proposing Solutions to Revive Tourism Industry, Stimulating Domestic Consumers
On May 18, Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, worked with the Department of Tourism on mechanisms and policies to support businesses in tackling difficulties affected by COVID-19.
The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected economic and social activities, especially in the field of tourism. The total direct damage of the city tourism industry in the first 6 months was estimated at 5,672 billion VND. The number of the unemployed or the temporarily unemployed in tourism services enterprises as of May 2020 is 35,860, accounting for 92% of the total number of tourism workers.
Currently, the city has issued a Tourism Stimulation Plan named “Danang Thank You”, assigned the Department of Tourism to preside and coordinate with the organizers of the “Fantastic Danang Festival 2020” on the basis of upgrading the annual event “Da Nang – Summer Destination” to become a special and attractive event to serve the local and visitors in 2020.
Up to now, there are nearly 120 units registered to participate with a huge discount from 30-50% on travel services. The total funding of tourism businesses, airlines, private tourist sites, restaurants, hotels, transport vehicles, cruise ships and other service facilities … when participating in the stimulus program calendar is estimated at around 15-20 billion.
At the meeting, the Department of Tourism proposed that the city soon should implement its own policies to support tourism businesses and add to the stimulus package in order shape a unique selling point to attract tourists to Da Nang. Meanwhile, the city should consider the policy of exemption and reduction of entrance fees for tourist areas managed by the city.
Specifically, 100% free of charge for the entrance ticket to visit the areas and tourist attractions managed by the city, including: Marble Mountains, Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, Da Nang Museum, Da Nang Fine Arts Museum … in 3 months since the city has well-controlled the epidemic and permitted businesses to reopen. Along with that, the city supports the cost of visually promoting the Da Nang tourism stimulus program in 2020, the cost of destination communication of Da Nang, introduce products and services on television to attract domestic tourists. At the same time, the units and businesses should improve the quality of services and human resources to ensure the quality of the stimulus program.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee – Mr. Le Trung Chinh requested the Department of Tourism to coordinate with the Department of Finance, Department of Culture and Sports … and continuously advise and submit solutions to the City People’s Council in order to effectively develop and launch tourism stimulus program that could really attract visitors to the city. Thereby, step by step restoring the operation of the tourism service industry and stimulating the development of other industries in the coming time post COVID-19 epidemic. It is forecasted that the stimulus packages could raise tourist number to the city in the last 6 months of the year to reach 2.4 million and the total tourism revenue to attain 9,089 billion VND.
