DANANG, 29 June 2016: A new resort and entertainment complex is under construction in Danang that will widen the city’s appeal to regional tourists.
Thanh Nien News reported the complex will cost at an estimated USD490.6 million.
Inspired by Las Vegas, the famous casino city in the US, the 31-hectare Cocobay will have two hotels, a beach club, restaurants and indoor and outdoor theatres.
Despite references to Las Vegas, the project brief does not identify a casino within the property.
The first phase will be ready next year, the report said.
The developer, Empire Group, is a spin-off enterprise of Thanh Do Construction and Development JSC, according to the company’s website.
Empire Group is a private corporation that focuses on entertainment, tourism and real estate.
Thanh Do built the Ho Tay Water Park in Hanoi and the resort Nam An Retreat in Danang.
For the first three months of the year, Danang attracted 1.04 million tourists up 19.6% year-on-year, 35% of whom were foreigners.
Last year, Danang welcomed 4.7 million tourists, both domestic and international, a 22.4% year-on-year increase. The city’s tourism revenue reached USD566.96 million.
The city has 492 accommodation facilities with 18,233 rooms and 218 travel companies.
