Da Nang, dubbed the ‘city of bridges”, bursts through the clouds. The central city, which neighbors popular ancient town Hoi An, is famed for its long, sandy beaches, especially My Khe. Da Nang, which has won global attention for its annual international fireworks competitions and spectacular Golden Bridge, has improved on transport, healthcare, commercial, and service infrastructure in the past few years to cope with a tourist surge.

Dragon Bridge, a symbol of the country’s tourism hotspot, is covered by thick clouds. The bridge opened to traffic on March 29, 2013, marking the 38th anniversary of the city’s liberation, and cost VND1.5 trillion ($65 million) to build. It is 666 meters long and 37.5 meters wide and has six lanes. It breathes fire and water every Saturday and Sunday night at 9 p.m, and makes the city shine in the night with 15,000 LED lights.

Clouds drift across Tran Thi Ly Bridge, originally a railway bridge, and called De Lattre de Tassigny during the French colonial period. After 1975, the bridge was named Tran Thi Ly and upgraded for more road traffic in 2013. It connects Hai Chau, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts, helping reduce traffic congestion at the eastern gateway to Da Nang.

Son Tra Peninsula, which covers more than 4,400 hectares (10,880 acres) and rises to 700 meters at its peak, acts as a natural shield for Da Nang and is home to Linh Ung Son Tra Pagoda. The peninsula is around 10 kilometers to the northeast of Da Nang and bordered by the sea in three directions. Home to hundreds of species of fauna, including 22 endangered species, it is best known for the world’s largest population of endangered red-shanked douc langurs.
