“Techcombank is pleased to partner once again with Sunrise Events Vietnam to help stage this fantastic sporting event,” said Mr. Nguyen Le Quoc Anh, CEO of Techcombank, strategic partner and title sponsor of TECHCOMBANK IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam.
“The TECHCOMBANK IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam provides an international platform to demonstrate the spirit and determination of its competitors, both Vietnamese and from abroad. It demonstrates the idea that we can all reach our highest potential through focus and perseverance to “Be Greater.” It also shows that we shouldn’t avoid challenges, but rather face them and overcome them. This mirrors the attitude of not just the people of Vietnam, but all of us here at Techcombank. We look forward to an exciting weekend of inspiring competition in 2020.”
The 6th edition of this event will once again be hosted in the beautiful city of Da Nang, which was recently chosen as one of the “52 Places to Go in 2019” by the New York Times thanks to its blend of stunning natural beauty, tourist attractions, food, and more. The event and location not only provide competitors with a memorable experience, but the TECHCOMBANK IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam event is also a major economic contributor to the central region every year the competition is held.
From a single event in 2015, the event has become a multi-day, multi-sport festival that brings together athletes from around the world and has continued to inspire more Vietnamese athletes to embrace sport and the healthy lifestyle that is at the core to completing one of the hardest, single-day endurance challenges on the planet. The number of local competitors has grown from only 46 Vietnamese athletes participating in the inaugural event in 2015 to over 1,000 in the 2019 event. On a total participation level, the 2019 edition also witnessed over 2,200 participants, who represented over 60 countries, making it the largest multi-sport festival in Vietnam.
“Being involved with the TECHCOMBANK IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam is truly humbling,” said Mr. Onslo Carrington, Sunrise Events Vietnam General Manager. “Watching this event grow from year to year is inspiring. It’s not just the addition of different events to embrace all athletes, it’s seeing how the people of Vietnam have welcomed not only the sport, but have increasingly immersed themselves in the competition each passing year. I’m truly looking forward to this year’s event for our local participants and visitors that are returning and those competing here for the first time.”
The TECHCOMBANK IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam competition is a major event in the region, serving as a qualifier for international events. In addition to total 60 qualifying slots for competitors to gain entry to the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupo, New Zealand, there is also a prize purse totaling $15,000 USD is also up for grabs for top finishers in the event.
“Since being one of only 46 local participants at the first IRONMAN 70.3 event in Vietnam in 2015, it’s truly inspiring to see how much this competition has grown and evolved over the years,” said the 2020 TECHCOMBANK IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam Ambassador Duong Nguyen Vu, PhD, a professor at the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He was one of the first competitors at the inaugural competition in Da Nang in 2015. “I’m truly honored to serve as an ambassador of this event, and being given the opportunity to help grow the sport I love in my home country. It is exciting to help engage athletes of all ages and abilities and encourage people to adopt the healthy lifestyle that are what events like this are all about.”
