Originating from the legend of Holika Dahan in Indian mythology, which tells the story of the battle between good and evil. According to the tale, Hiranyakashipu, a tyrannical demon king, proclaimed himself God and demanded everyone worship him. However, his son – Prahlad – wholeheartedly revered the god Vishnu, enraging the demon king, who sought to eliminate his son. He enlisted his sister Holika, who was immune to fire, to embrace Prahlad and sit on a pyre to burn the boy alive. However, Vishnu protected Prahlad, while Holika was consumed by the flames. Since then, Hindus light bonfires on the night of Choti Holi to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness, marking the start of the Holi color festival.
From then on, the Holi festival is held annually with the meaning of expressing love, bonding, and the belief that good will always prevail over evil. During this festival, participants will let go of societal taboos, expressing freedom through the act of throwing colored powder, enjoying sweets and intoxicating drinks.
