In the race’s last 200 knots from Cape Town (South Africa) to Albany (Western Australia), a fierce competition and high speed of teams: Mission Performance, IchorCoal, Danang – Vietnam and Visit Seattle. Lastly, the teams finished in the following places: 6th – Mission Performance, 7th – IchorCoal, 8th – Danang – Vietnam, 9th – Visit Seattle.
Danang – Vietnam Skipper Wendy said that we are making our last run for the finish. I am a tad sad as I don’t think we will get past IchorCoal and Mission Performance, and we have Visit Seattle behind us, keeping us on our toes.
It’s been a tough and good race. Well done to all the crew and especially to the new crew, those first few days were an eye opener. We didn’t get the conditions (i.e. big swells) that we thought we would and our top boat speed is only 22.7 knots under white sails, but there is always the next race.
There is always mixed emotions at the end of a race, we love being at sea, but also looking forward to a meal on a plate, a hot shower, a toilet that you flush with one finger, and being able to walk around not hanging on.
The Danang – Vietnam team will have a friendly match with North Albany – Albany Wallabies. The crews will sail together with the local people, show clips of Clipper Race at Albany City Hall… and leave on December 1st (local time) to continue the next race to Sydney (Australia).
