BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024: 3 Golfers Share the Top Spot After the First 18 Holes

On August 29, the esteemed golfers inaugurated the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024 at the revered Nicklaus Course at Legend Danang Golf Resort. The tournament bore witness to commendable performances from Australian golfer Lawry Flynn, American golfer Sydney Chung, and Thai golfer Thitipan Pachuayprakong on the inaugural day of competition.

In previous seasons, the Nicklaus Course was configured as a par-72. However, in 2024, the course’s configuration transitioned to a par-73. This adjustment has been recognized for potentially offering a marginally more accommodating experience for golfers, which may result in more favorable scores overall.

During the first day of the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024, 26 golfers scored below par, demonstrating the impact of the course setup change. Notably, Australian golfer Lawry Flynn, American golfer Sydney Chung, and Thai golfer Thitipan Pachuayprakong stood out by achieving impressive scores of 68 strokes (-5).

Lawry Flynn competes professionally on the Australian PGA Tour and is ranked 1320 globally, with a career-high ranking of 774.

He played in the morning group and was the first to take the lead. Despite a bogey on the par-3 4th hole, Flynn rebounded with six birdies throughout the day. As an amateur, he claimed the title at the 2017 Malaysian Amateur Open.

Sydney Chung

After the afternoon groups finished, Sydney Chung and Thitipan Pachuayprakong matched Flynn’s score. Thitipan was the only golfer to complete the first round without a bogey, achieving five birdies and avoiding mistakes. Sydney Chung started the day with two bogeys but made a comeback with one eagle and five birdies. After the first round of the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024, all three leaders have yet to secure a victory in their careers, presenting a prime opportunity for them to claim their first titles.

Four golfers, including Vietnam’s Đoàn Uy, Thailand’s Nopparat Panichphol, Australia’s Kyle Michel, and the Philippines’ Aidric Jose Chan, are tied for third place with scores of 69 (-4).

Đoàn Uy, one of Vietnam’s top amateur golfers, had an impressive performance on the first morning of the tournament.

By the end of the day, Pakistan’s Ahmad Baig and Thailand’s Runchanapong Youprayong were tied at -3. These two are expected to make a strong impression at the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024, alongside notable players like Rahil Gangjee (India), Liu Yung-hua (Taiwan), and Galven Green (Malaysia).

Nguyễn Anh Minh, one of Vietnam’s top young amateur golfers, was grouped with American Ryoto Furuya and Thai Sarut Vongchaisit. Anh Minh completed his first round with a 78 (+5) score.

Nguyễn Đặng Minh had a solid start to the tournament and was satisfied with his performance but aims to improve in the round on August 30. He noted that his playing partner, Paul Harris (USA), played exceptionally well, with over 20 years of golfing experience.
