More than just blue seas and white sand, more than sunlit coastal roads or heritage spaces where nature and culture intertwine, May in Da Nang unfolds with a deeper sense of experience.

This May, you may encounter an energetic Da Nang along coastal race routes, where every stride and every stroke carries resilience and the spirit of pushing beyond limits. You may also slow down to discover a richer Da Nang, where the flavors of Quang land linger in seaside festival spaces, turning each dish into not just a taste, but a way of connecting with local memory. And as night falls by the Han River, the city glows in a different way—through fireworks, music, and shared moments when emotions align, connect, and burst into the night sky.

Below are some of the most notable events in May 2026, offering you the freedom to weave them into your journey in your own way. Each stop is not only an experience, but also a “touchpoint” where you can feel more deeply the rhythm of life, the flavors, and the authentic values of Da Nang as summer begins.

IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam
May 10, 2026
Beaches and city routes

From the very first days of the month, the city is awakened by the rhythm of endurance sports. More than 3,100 athletes from 90 countries gather, each bringing stories of limits and aspirations. The presence of over 300 All World Athlete (AWA) competitors intensifies the atmosphere, where every step and every cycling lap embodies competition and breakthrough.

The full-distance IRONMAN triathlon—covering 140.6 miles—is not only a physical challenge but also a journey of self-transcendence. As athletes swim in the early morning sea, cycle through open city routes, and run under the early summer sun, Da Nang transforms into a “living course” where people, nature, and determination become one. It also marks an important milestone, affirming Viet Nam’s position on the global endurance sports map.

Prior to that, the atmosphere is warmed up by the Newborns Vietnam Run Out charity run on May 8—a journey of both physical effort and compassion, raising awareness for newborn care. On May 9, SUNRISE SPRINT Viet Nam and IRONKIDS continue the momentum, creating a vibrant sporting space for both adults and children.

Moving away from the intensity of sports, the journey opens into a deeper cultural layer where rural traditions appear naturally and intimately. This festival is not merely an event, but a living memory of traditional cultural space preserved through generations.

It is the only festival in Viet Nam honoring buffalo herding children—an image closely tied to agricultural life. In Phong Nam village, at Than Nong Communal House and Con Than, activities unfold as part of everyday life rather than separate from it. Ritual processions, folk performances, Bai Choi singing, and traditional games create a rhythm that is both solemn and familiar.

Here, visitors do not simply watch, but feel how a community connects through culture—gently, naturally, yet profoundly.

Tra Giap Ethnic Cultural Festival – 1st Edition, 2026
May 18–19, 2026
Village 2, Tra Giap Commune

At Tra Giap, visitors can directly engage in distinctive cultural activities of the Co Tu and Ca Dong communities, from immersing in gong performances and observing traditional rituals to exploring stilt-house displays and cultural camps. Local products and medicinal herbs such as cinnamon are also introduced.

Hands-on experiences like bamboo weaving, rice pounding, cooking, and enjoying traditional cuisine bring visitors closer to daily life, while moments by the fire reveal the rhythm of the community. Recreated elements such as the ceremonial pole further enrich the authenticity, allowing visitors not only to see but to truly understand and feel local life.

Da Nang Food Tour Festival 2026
May 20–24, 2026
East Sea Park, Tam Thanh Beach Square, and other locations

May is also when the sense of taste is awakened in its fullest expression. The festival unfolds across multiple locations, offering a multi-day culinary journey.

Opening at 7:30 PM on May 21 at East Sea Park, the event tells the story of Quang cuisine through live performances where music, choreography, and culinary art blend seamlessly. Over 100 booths present signature dishes, OCOP products, and local specialties, while themed spaces and interactive areas invite visitors to not only taste but also participate in the making process.

Evenings come alive with Beer Fest Night (May 23) and a grand music concert (May 24), creating a multisensory seaside experience. A highlight is the “Da Nang Flavor Parade,” featuring more than 70 street food vendors, recreating the vibrant rhythm of local culinary culture.

The journey extends to Tam Thanh Beach Square with the “Taste of the Sea” event and to Cam Chau Market with the traditional cake festival, expanding the experience from coast to town, from modern to traditional.

Hoi An – Japan Cultural Exchange (22nd Edition), Da Nang 2026
May 22–24, 2026
Hoi An Ancient Town

Within the ancient town, where time seems to slow, Japanese cultural elements appear naturally in every corner. Lantern lights and continuous activities evoke a Hoi An of historic trading centuries.

Visitors can begin at the opening ceremony at An Hoi Sculpture Garden, followed by street performances, Bon dances, traditional music, and community exchanges. Experience spaces offer tea ceremony, calligraphy, origami, and opportunities to try on Yukata or Ao Dai, while culinary and cultural booths present a closer look at daily life.

Highlights include the reenactment of the wedding procession of Princess Ngoc Hoa and merchant Araki Sotaro, ceramic painting inspired by Hizen ware, and heritage sites reflecting Japanese traces within the ancient town. Altogether, it forms a living cultural space—dynamic, connected, and deeply immersive.

Opening of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival – DIFF 2026
May 30, 2026
Han River Port area; main grandstand and stage on Tran Hung Dao Street

The pinnacle of May arrives when the Han River sky lights up, drawing the entire city’s gaze upward. More than an annual event, DIFF 2026 continues to affirm its global appeal, having been recognized by Travel + Leisure Asia among the world’s top summer festivals.

With the theme “Bridging Horizons,” the festival gathers 10 leading international teams, transforming the city into a grand stage of light, music, and performance. The opening night, themed “Nature,” features a dramatic face-off between Da Nang (Viet Nam 1) and Jiangxi Yangfeng Art Fireworks (China), the reigning champion.

As the first fireworks bloom over the Han River, light spreads across the sky, creating a unique moment where colors awaken the senses and emotions follow each rhythm. When the echoes fade and the lights soften, what lingers is not just the spectacle, but a gentle sense of fullness—a quiet afterglow that allows each person to reconnect with their own inner calm.

May in Da Nang is not simply a sequence of events, but a journey offering different ways to experience the city. At times vibrant, at times slow, and sometimes just a pause is enough to truly feel the surroundings.

And eventually, when you are no longer concerned about where to go next, you may realize that the journey is not only about discovering a destination, but about returning to yourself—lighter, more balanced, and closer to what is simple yet real.
