Director and People’s Artist Tran Luc has officially joined the Jury for the Vietnamese Film Competition at the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF IV).
Born in Hanoi in 1963 into a family with a rich artistic heritage, Tran Luc began his artistic career in the early 1980s. He first performed with the Performing Arts Troupe of the General Department of Logistics before pursuing stage directing at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Bulgaria. Upon returning to Vietnam, he continued his professional career in both theatre and cinema.

Tran Luc first gained recognition as an actor through a series of acclaimed productions, including The Life of an Itinerant Singer, Love Story by the River, Nguyen Ai Quoc in Hong Kong, Em and Trinh, and Peach Blossom, Pho and Piano. With his scholarly appearance, elegant demeanor, and natural acting style, he became one of the most recognizable faces of Vietnamese cinema during the 1990s.
In addition to acting, People’s Artist Tran Luc has established himself as a director through notable works such as The Moc Family Story (1998), a television series cherished by generations of Vietnamese audiences, and Who’s the First Footer This Tet? (2002), widely regarded as one of the pioneering films that helped shape the modern Vietnamese Tet film genre. He has also served as an investor and executive producer for several film projects, including Cocktail for Love (2008) and The Chef and the Tycoon (2013).
Beyond filmmaking, Tran Luc has devoted significant efforts to experimental theatre. In 2017, he founded LucTeam, an independent theatre company dedicated to exploring new approaches to stage performance and actor training. In 2023, he was awarded the prestigious title of People’s Artist in recognition of more than four decades of outstanding contributions to Vietnamese arts and culture.
Drawing on his extensive experience as an actor, director, producer, and theatre educator, People’s Artist Tran Luc is expected to bring valuable professional insight and objective perspectives to the Vietnamese Film Competition Jury, further enhancing the prestige of this year’s competition.
