STEAK HOUSE THE FAN, FURAMA RESORT DA NANG RETURNS: EXPERIENCE FINE STEAK IN A TRADITIONAL NORTHERN VIETNAMESE CULTURAL SETTING — HAVE YOU TRIED IT?

THE SURPRISING PRESENCE OF A TRADITIONAL FIVE-ROOM KINH BAC HOUSE NOW REBUILT IN DA NANG CITY

Right in the heart of the coastal tourism city, the Steak House The Fan restaurant at Furama Resort Da Nang has officially returned — now with a completely new appearance that astonishes many visitors.

Meticulously designed in the style of a traditional five-room house from the Kinh Bac region, Steak House The Fan offers guests a truly unique experience. Five adjoining compartments, sturdy oval wood pillars, gracefully curved yin-yang tiled roofs, and stone steps — all authentically recreated by northern artisans with exceptional craftsmanship and detail.

The structure at Steak House The Fan is built entirely from Vietnamese oval wood (xoan ta) — not only for its familiarity, durability, and strong Northern identity, but also because of its deep-rooted connection to the lives of Vietnamese families from days past. As referenced in the old folk saying: “Plant oval trees when you marry, plant areca palms when you have children,” these trees were often planted when a couple first wed. After 20 to 30 years — by the time their children had grown — the trees would be mature enough to harvest, becoming the building blocks for a traditional five-room house. This process symbolized the continuation of fortune and legacy from one generation to the next.

More than just a restaurant, Steak House The Fan is like a precious gem encapsulating Vietnam’s cultural heritage and stories. This reconstructed house dates back to 1939, near the end of the Nguyen Dynasty, and still retains its original traditional features. From the carved motifs on the crossbeams to the bed platform structures, every detail reflects the artisans’ dedication and skill. These are not merely decorations — they are expressions of aspiration and family values. Reconstructing this house represents a respectful inheritance of the past.

BECAUSE CUISINE IS NOT JUST ABOUT EATING, BUT ALSO ABOUT EXPERIENCING SPACE AND CULTURE

What surprises many is that inside this house, diners are treated to a variety of Western-style steaks. Succulent beef cuts, rich and flavorful French foie gras, and fresh, delicately seasoned seafood soups are all served with refined authenticity.

Guests can enjoy exquisite steaks while immersing themselves in the Northern cultural atmosphere — from the “village” style entrance, earthen-walled cottages, and vintage ceramic jars to the garden courtyard — where traditional Northern folk dances are performed against a mesmerizing backdrop of the infinite sea.

Mr. Andre Pierre — General Managing Director of the Furama – Ariyana International Tourism Complex in Da Nang — shared more about the project: “In addition to offering high-quality products using selected ingredients such as grain-fed beef and chilled beef from Japan, the US, and Australia, as well as organic vegetables and wines hand-picked by professional sommeliers, Steak House The Fan aims to provide guests with a holistic culinary journey — where Northern Vietnamese cultural spaces are harmoniously blended with Western excellence, so that every experience is not only delicious but also deeply emotional and meaningful.”

Commenting on this style of restaurant within a resort setting, Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh — Vice Chairman of the Hotel Association — shared: “This is a model example, featuring a cultural space with traditional architectural heritage, which opens up an opportunity for cultural convergence from the three regions of Vietnam, paired with folk culinary activities. It aligns with Da Nang’s strategic direction to become an event-driven city, promoting tourism alongside community culture and national identity, attracting both domestic and international visitors as well as local residents.”
