The Danang International Marathon 2025 proudly returns on March 23, 2025, inviting runners from all corners of the globe to challenge themselves across three exhilarating distances: Marathon (42KM), Half Marathon (21KM), and 5KM, alongside two Ronny Dash races (500M and 1.5KM) for children. This year’s event is a remarkable celebration, attracting the most significant number of international athletes, with participants from over 72 countries and territories. As the 12th edition unfolds, the race reaffirms its place as Vietnam’s largest marathon, proudly showcasing Da Nang as a beacon of sports tourism on the global stage.
A RECORD-BREAKING INTERNATIONAL SPORTING EVENT
The Danang International Marathon stands as a symbol of prestige, drawing thousands of passionate runners from near and far each year. With one of Asia’s most breathtaking marathon routes, the event lures international participants who embrace the spirit of competition and adventure in beautiful Danang. The 2025 edition anticipates more than 7,000 runners, including 3,000 international athletes—a remarkable 42% increase from 2024 -comprising 41% of the total participants. This year marks an unprecedented milestone for international involvement, solidifying the marathon’s status as the most significant global event in Vietnam.
Athletes from 72 countries and territories competing in 2025
Da Nang, a captivating coastal city, remains the ultimate destination for elite runners, including champions and top performers ready to make their mark in the Marathon and Half Marathon categories.
The whole marathon category will feature prominent names such as: Shadrack Kipkemboi (Kenya), Issel Kawabata (Japan), Otmane Menbar (Morocco), and top Vietnamese athletes: Pham Ngoc Phan, Huynh Anh Khoi, Le Tan Hi, Le Minh Tuan, and Pham Thi Binh. With a diverse lineup of elite athletes, the Danang International Marathon promises an exciting and competitive race.
The half marathon is equally thrilling, featuring: Eric Kiplimo Mosbei (Kenya), James Drakeford (United Kingdom), Vimal Govendarajoo (Malaysia), and Vietnamese athletes: Doan Thi Oanh, Nguyen Khanh Ly, Thai Thi Kim Ngan.
As part of a sustainable approach to boost Da Nang’s tourism and economy, the Danang International Marathon has consistently prioritized quality over trends. For 2025, the 10KM race category has been removed to enhance the experience for long-distance runners (42KM and 21KM) and prepare for future growth, drawing the highest number of international participants.
Children’s races will include a 1.5KM solo run and a 500M parent-child race, inviting more traveling families to participate in weekend activities. This event coincides with the 50th anniversary of Danang’s Liberation Day (March 29, 1975 – March 29, 2025), marking a momentous highlight in the city’s celebrations. The marathon fosters community engagement through sports and showcases Da Nang as Vietnam’s most livable city to international visitors. With a stunning course along My Khe Beach, the Han River, and Son Tra Peninsula, the race offers a physical challenge and a unique tourism experience.
Looking forward to a spectacular and unforgettable race in 2025, moving the event to March for the first time in 2024 received overwhelmingly positive feedback from local and international athletes. Cooler weather improved race performances, with many runners extending their stay to savor Da Nang’s culinary and cultural offerings. Hosting the marathon in March aligns with Da Nang’s tourism calendar, expanding the city’s peak travel season. The organizing committee expects this year’s event to positively influence the city’s hospitality, food, entertainment, and retail industries, contributing to Da Nang’s economic growth.
This year’s marathon will also achieve a record in charitable contributions, with USD 20,000 donated by Dennis Zabora and the Silver Stride team. As a Vietnam War veteran and a long-time participant, Dennis Zabora continuously encourages his family and friends to support these efforts. His contributions embody the spirit of community and the deep human values that the marathon represents.
