Filmmaker Edwin, one of the leading figures of contemporary Indonesian cinema, has officially joined the Jury for the Vietnamese Film Competition at the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF IV).
Working across short films, documentaries and feature films, Edwin is known for his distinctive cinematic style, blending realism, satire and sharp observations of Indonesian society through an experimental approach to storytelling. His works bear a strong artistic signature and have received recognition at many prestigious international film festivals.
Edwin studied at the Jakarta Institute of Arts and further developed his filmmaking practice through renowned international training programmes, including the Berlinale Talent Campus and the Asian Film Academy at the Busan International Film Festival.
Throughout his career, Edwin has directed a number of acclaimed works, including Kara: Daughter of a Tree, Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly, Postcards from the Zoo and Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash. These films have been selected for screening at major international film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, Busan and Locarno. Notably, Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash won the Golden Leopard, the highest award at the Locarno Film Festival.
His latest feature film, Sleep No More, was presented at the Berlin International Film Festival 2026, further affirming his position in contemporary art-house cinema.
Beyond his role as a director, Edwin has also made active contributions to the development of Indonesia’s film ecosystem. He is the co-founder of Kinosaurus, an independent cinema space in Jakarta, and a member of Lab Laba Laba, an artist collective dedicated to preserving and practising analogue filmmaking.
Edwin’s participation in the Vietnamese Film Competition Jury at DANAFF IV is expected to bring in-depth professional perspectives, contributing to the selection and celebration of outstanding Vietnamese cinematic works at this year’s festival.
