Emirates, recognized as one of the premier international airlines globally, has proudly inaugurated its new air service connecting Dubai and Da Nang, commencing with four weekly flights starting on June 2, 2025. This addition positions Da Nang as the airline’s third destination in Viet Nam, following Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, as part of its extensive global network.
In celebration of this milestone, the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in partnership with Emirates, the Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company (AHT), and various stakeholders, held a welcoming ceremony for the inaugural flight EK370 from Dubai to Da Nang (with a stop in Bangkok). This event signifies Emirates’ official presence in the central city.
“The introduction of Emirates’ service to Da Nang enhances connectivity to over 140 global destinations within the airline’s network, particularly emphasizing key markets in the Middle East, Europe, North America, and Africa. This new route is poised to stimulate tourism development while simultaneously creating avenues for trade, investment, and cultural exchanges, thereby elevating Da Nang’s profile on the international stage with the theme: Discover the stories of Da Nang,” stated Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In anticipation of welcoming visitors from the Middle East and other high-spending demographics, the Department has collaborated with relevant entities to upgrade infrastructure, enhance service quality, and implement specialized training sessions focused on cultural sensitivities and customer service tailored to the needs of these diverse travelers. Furthermore, efforts are underway to support local tourism operators in forging partnerships and developing tour packages that extend to Dubai and other destinations served by Emirates, fostering reciprocal tourism flows and aspiring for a sustainable and effective operation of the new route.
Flight EK370 touched down at Da Nang International Airport at 19:50 on the inaugural day, carrying 333 international passengers aboard a Boeing 777, a spacious aircraft that offers three distinct cabin classes, ensuring a comfortable and safe journey. This flight marks the initiation of the regular Dubai – Bangkok – Da Nang route, operating four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The official opening ceremony for the new Emirates route was held at 20:00 on June 2, 2025 (Monday) in the International Departures Terminal of Da Nang International Airport. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee; the Chargé d’affaires of the UAE Embassy in Viet Nam; officials from the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism and the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam; leaders from the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; airport management representatives; executives from Sun Group; along with senior officials from Emirates.
In a remarkable event at the International Arrivals Terminal, Da Nang warmly welcomed its first passengers arriving from Dubai with a special reception. The aircraft was greeted with a ceremonial water cannon salute, symbolizing the city’s hospitality. Passengers were treated to traditional musical performances and presented with flowers and souvenirs, emphasizing Da Nang’s reputation as a safe, friendly, and inviting destination.
Mr. Nabil Sultan, Emirates’ Executive Vice President for Passenger Sales and Country Management, remarked, “The inauguration of this new route represents a significant milestone in Emirates’ growth strategy within Southeast Asia and underscores our commitment to supporting Viet Nam’s long-term tourism and trade aspirations. With Da Nang’s unique combination of natural beauty, cultural richness, and burgeoning economic potential, we are honored to offer world-class products and services that will connect Da Nang with both Dubai and Bangkok. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Viet Nam, as well as our esteemed partners at Da Nang International Airport and in the tourism sector, for their unwavering support and enthusiasm. We are optimistic about Da Nang’s increasing appeal and look forward to fostering connections for both travelers and businesses to this extraordinary destination.”
Beginning in early 2023, the Da Nang government recognized the importance of the Dubai route as a strategic initiative. In January of that year, a working delegation led by Da Nang Chairman Le Trung Chinh engaged with Mr. Orhan Abbas, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for the Far East at Emirates, alongside representatives at Emirates’ headquarters in Dubai. During this productive meeting, Da Nang presented insights regarding its aviation infrastructure, local tourism, and flight operations and outlined its plans for international promotion, including a proposal for a direct route to the city.
After nearly two years of collaborative efforts, in January 2025, an Emirates delegation led by Mr. Salem Ghanem Al Marri, Director of Route Planning and Analytics, visited Da Nang for discussions with city officials, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, relevant departments, Da Nang Airport authorities, and Sun Group. This visit, which included site inspections and meticulous route planning, was a testament to the shared commitment to the successful launch of the Dubai – Da Nang service.
Da Nang route (via Bangkok) by Emirates is a testament to the robust support and guidance from the Vietnamese Government, the dedication of Da Nang authorities, and the cooperative efforts among departments, agencies, and the business community. Da Nang has now been proudly positioned on the global map of Emirates’ destinations, earning recognition as a top-tier international airline, according to Forbes Travel Guide 2025.
