Preparatory work for welcoming the Clipper Race fleet which is expected to arrive in Da Nang on 17 February, is almost complete.
In particular, water supply, lighting and anti-collision systems for racing yachts have been already installed at the Han River Port. In addition, the preparatory work for other support activities is underway.
Moreover, a replica of the Da Nang-Viet Nam team’s racing yacht is on display at the western end of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge, whilst a film about this international event has been released.
Legendary British sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the founder of the world’s longest ocean race, said that Clipper Race crew members were looking forward to arriving in Da Nang. He added that the locals and visitors could visit the racing yachts and meet with all crew members at the Han River Port between 23 and 25 February, and enjoy a boat tour along the Han River in the evening of 25 February.
The municipal People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, said that the local authorities and residents have followed the Da Nang-Viet Nam team proudly since the Clipper Race departed London last summer. He remarked that they have been looking forward to welcoming all the crews to Da Nang. He said he hoped that the city’s beautiful beaches and its warm welcome would give international crew members memorable experiences during their 10-day stay here.
By being an official sponsor and host port for the ongoing 2015 – 2016 Clipper Round the World Race, Da Nang is proving its emergence as an attractive destination for international events. The race will be a great opportunity for the city to advertise its image to the world.
