APEC Park – A Cultural and Artistic Landmark of APEC 2017 in Da Nang
On November 9, 2017, the APEC National Committee, in a significant collaboration with the People’s Committee of Da Nang City, took the lead in hosting the inauguration ceremony of APEC Park. The event was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, who also serves as the Chairman of the APEC National Committee. Among the distinguished attendees were Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Tuan Anh, Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho, Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, and ministers and senior officials representing member economies.
The park stands as a testament to the collective spirit of APEC, showcasing sculptures contributed by member economies as gifts to Vietnam. In March 2017, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Chairman of SOM and Vice Chairman of the APEC National Committee, extended invitations to the 20 member economies to contribute sculptures to the park, a gesture that underscores the unity and shared vision of the APEC community.
Over the past six months, under the guidance of the APEC 2017 National Committee and Da Nang People’s Committee, the Department of Foreign Affairs has actively coordinated with the APEC National Secretariat to engage, guide, and support member economies in the transportation of sculptures and adherence to technical requirements. This involved meticulous planning and execution, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of the sculptures. They have also provided support for site surveys and installation supervision and have participated in the sculpture setup. Additionally, they have collaborated with the Department of Construction, the Department of Culture and Sports, the Planning Institute, the Project Management Board for Agricultural and Rural Development Construction, Customs Department, and Cotimex Import-Export Corporation to ensure the completion of all aspects of the APEC Park project.
APEC Park, located in Binh Hien Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang City, covers an area of 8,668 square meters and has a construction density of 32.8%. It comprises a basement, a first floor, and a second floor.
The second floor stands out architecturally, featuring a spacious dome structure. The design of the dome, characterized by a steel frame with a gracefully curved, three-dimensional form resembling a “soaring kite,” symbolizes Da Nang’s all-encompassing development. It portrays Da Nang as a “leading bird,” guiding the Central Region towards more significant growth and enabling the region to “fly high.”
