As part of the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF IV), the program “Vietnamese Cinema after 40 Years of Doi Moi” will introduce 17 representative films selected by the Vietnam Film Development Association (VFDA), spanning from the late 1980s to the 2000s.

Vietnamese Cinema after 40 Years of Doi Moi

According to the Organizing Committee, from the mid-1980s onward, Vietnamese cinema began experiencing significant changes in creative thinking, gradually moving away from the familiar illustrative approach to reality and toward more exploratory perspectives on society and people during the transitional period.

Among the 17 featured works are films that were previously produced only for political or research purposes and had never been commercially released. Therefore, the program offers audiences an opportunity to explore a wide range of genres, creative styles, and diverse cinematic perspectives from Vietnamese cinema during the Doi Moi period.

In addition to screenings, the program will also include exchanges with artists and filmmakers, allowing audiences to look back on the development journey of Vietnamese cinema throughout 40 years of the country’s Doi Moi process.

The program “Vietnamese Cinema after 40 Years of Doi Moi” will take place from June 28 to July 4, 2026 in Da Nang.
