Golden Spoon Contest aiming to honour Vietnamese cuisine found out the winner. With best dishes themed “Taste coming from the countryside”, chef Nguyen Duc Duong with his team from Intercontinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort

After competing with 14 professional chefs in Vietnam, won first prize and received 1 billion VND (47,370 USD) in cash and a trophy.

In the elimination round, chefs had right to select materials to cook. In the final round, they got materials by drawing. This was a challenge to make chefs more creative, clever and professional. Chef Nguyen Duc Duong with his team conquered judges by 4 delicious dishes: the appertizer: spring rolls, salad with duck and lotus, ground shirmp; grilled fish wrapped by pineapple leaves with saffron sauce, hot pot with 3 colors noodles and the dessert named Spring Dances.

Judges including Ms.Bui Thi Suong – culinary artisan, Ms.Trieu Thi Choi – excellent professor, culinary and cutural expert, Mr. Ly Sanh – President of the Saigon professional chefs association, Mr. David Thai – the super international chef, Mr. Robert Danhi – culinary and cutural expert and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa – Deputy President of the Nutrition Association appreciated Nguyen Duc Duong’s dishes because he made traditional dishes more luxurious but they still kept their own typical taste. Mr. Ly Minh Ngoc – General Director of Minh Long I, the organization board leader said “I believe that anywhere in our country is totally beautiful and attracts many tourists. However, it is not enough, tourists also are interesting in other amazing things such as traditional culture, history…Especially,Vietnamese cuisine is one of most attractive things. A variety of materials with creation in cooking, and the most thing is our habit in enjoying food which always requires the balance among nutrients are getting become the main trend worldwide. Golden Spoon Contest organized first in 2013 will hopefully take an initiative in eating good and nutrient food model.”

Golden Spoon Contest was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, the Business Studies and Assistance Centre and Binh Duong-based Minh Long I Company. This was an itinerary along Vietnam in order to find out, discover and honour traditional food. Before the final round in Binh Duong province, the contest attracted the participation of a total of 140 teams of chefs working in restaurants around Vietnam to both compete each other and to research about nutrition and introduce Vietnamese specialties and healthy dishes.
