The 2nd Da Nang International Marathon, which takes place in the city on Sunday 31 August, has already attracted around 500 entrants from 27 countries and territories around the world.

This is 110 entrants and 2 countries more than last year’s final totals which shows that the event is gaining in popularity and helping to advertise the city’s image to international friends.

Da Nang has honourably become the 97th member of the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIMS). As a result, the finishing time of each runner, which will be recorded by chip-timer, will be accepted at other international-level competitions worldwide.

This year’s event will include 3 races: the full marathon (42.195km) and half marathon (21.0975km) both start at 4.00am, and a 5km fun run and walk begins at 7.00am. The race route will be Vo Nguyen Giap Street – Nguyen Van Thoai Street – Tran Thi Ly Bridge – 2 September Street – Bach Dang Street – 3 February Street – Thuan Phuoc Bridge – Le Duc Tho Street – Hoang Sa Street.

For the 5km run and walk, the route will be Pham Van Dong Street – Ngo Quyen Street – Pham Van Dong Street – Ho Nghinh Street – Thich Phuoc Hue Street – Vo Nguyen Giap Street – Pham Van Dong Street.

Following recent approval from the municipal People’s Committee, the World Marathon Tours Inc (head office in Houston, Texas, USA) has been selected to be the organiser of the races from 2014 – 2018. Each year the event will be held on the last Sunday before National Day (2 September). Based on the success of the races over the 2014 – 2018 period, the city will later select the organisers for 2019 on wards.
