Clipper Round the World Race – a good chance to advertise city’s image

During his meeting on Thursday to check the Da Nang ‘s preparations for welcoming the participating teams in the 2015 – 2016 Clipper Round the World Race, the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Dang Viet Dung, said that the international event will be one of the greatest opportunities for the city to advertise its image to international friends. He stressed, therefore, the need for local relevant agencies to develop perfect plans to welcome the visitors.

Vice Chairman Dung asked local relevant agencies to replace a dragon dance at a welcome ceremony for the Clipper Race fleet with a traditional dance and a drumming ceremony which are both imbued with the Vietnamese cultural identity. He also urged the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to conduct surveys of local restaurants and choose those of international-standard to provide the best service to race fleet members.

The city leader also asked the local Department of Information and Communications to actively advertise the city’s image via social networks, including the competition’s website at, in order to attract more visitors to the city.

More than 700 sailors from over 40 countries worldwide are joining in the 2015 – 2016 Clipper Race. Over 3,000 amateur sailors have so far participated in the biennial race throughout its 19-year history.

The Clipper Race fleet is expected to stay in Da Nang from 17 to 27 February 2016. During this time the special characteristics of Viet Nam and the traditional cultural values of its people, and specifically the investment attractions and tourism development potential of Da Nang, will be publicised in the domestic and international media.
