The Da Nang Beach Tourism Season 2016 is taking place at the Bien Dong (East Sea) Park in Son Tra District until 5 May, and the 7-day event is attracting a great deal of attention from both domestic and foreign visitors.

Over the past 5 days, crowds have gathered at local beaches to swim and to take part in the various exciting cultural and sporting activities.

In particular, visitors attending the Beach Festive Day from 4.00pm on 29 April competed in various exciting games, including fishing net knitting, fish carrying, tug-of-war, and coracle racing.

Ms Nguyen Hoai Duong from Ha Noi said, “We only had the opportunity to watch the fish carrying and tug-of-war competitions because we arrived at the festival too late.  I have visited Da Nang many times, but this is the first time I have experienced a wide range of activities for local fishermen”.

Meanwhile, foreign visitors at the event took the opportunity to record memorable moments here.  Adam McGhee from Hawaii (US) said, “We have to record such fascinating activities and we will then share them with our friends in our hometown”.

Many sports lovers registered to take part in the 3rd kayak race named ‘Vuot Song My Khe’ (Journey from the Fall of My Khe Beach) which started at 2.00pm on 30 April.

Mr Tran Van Quang from Nghe An remarked, “This is the first time I have taken part in a kayak race, and it is the most beautiful and unforgettable memory of my stay in the city”.

According to the Deputy Director of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Tran Chi Cuong, the city welcomed 224,230 visitors during the 4-day holiday break between 30 April and 3 May, a decrease of 0.1% compared with the same period last year.  Of this figure, the number of foreigners rose by 25% to 44,229, whilst that of domestic visitors decreased by 5.8 % to around 180,000.

Mr Cuong said, “The fall in the number of domestic travellers is thought to be because of the mysterious mass fish deaths along some of the beaches in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue.  This has resulted in a dramatic decline in the number of domestic tourist arrivals to the central region, including to Da Nang”.

The city authorities have taken various effective measures to help local residents and visitors feel secure about local seafood.

The focus is on announcing the results of the tests, which showed that sea water quality parameters are within allowable limits and they entirely meet the national standards for swimming and water sports activities.  Importance is also being attached to introducing clean fish-selling areas at local markets, and organising a seafood festival at the Bien Dong Park until 5 May to promote local clean and safe seafood.
