May 13, 2017, Ha Noi, Vietnam – APEC SOM 2 and related meetings continued their fifth working day with ten activities from Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI), Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC), Human Resource Development Working Group (HRDWG), Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) and APEC Study Centers Consortium (ASCC).
In order to promote deeper regional economic integration, as well as to implement APEC agenda on free trade and investment, the Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI) held three meetings including Friends of the Chair (FotC) on Trade Facilitation Meeting, Friends of the Chair (FotC) on Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) Meeting and the Plenary Session in the afternoon.
SOM FotC on Urbanization, within the framework of the CTI, also held a Workshop on “Developing the Methodology for Measuring and Realizing the Sustainability of Cities in the APEC Region”. With over half of the world’s megacities in the APEC region and as urbanization continues at an unprecedented rate across APEC, effective and sustainable urban infrastructure policy, planning and implementation stand as a key priority and major development challenge for many APEC members.
The Education Network sub-group of HRDWG had two activities where discussion focused on promoting the application of science and technology in education and training with the aim to develop quality human resources in respond to the demand of the digital economy in the 21st century.
Today, in the framework of HRDWG, the Workshop on “Linking Education and Start-up: Youth, Women and Athletes” was held. This is one of the initiatives that contribute to economic and social inclusion of APEC member economies. Today also saw the Workshop on “Enhancing Mutual Recognition and Regional Cooperation for Skills and Job Qualification in the APEC Region”. HRDWG also held a Preparatory Meeting for the upcoming High Level Policy Dialogue on Human Resources Development in the Digital Age on May 15.
Today, the APEC Study Centers Consortium (ASCC) and Food Safety Cooperation Forum of the SCSC Sub – committee also concluded their meetings.
